Apparent Queens home invasion leaves knife-wielding woman shot by cops, three people stabbed by suspect

The NYPD is investigating a bloody, bizarre Queens home invasion on Friday night that left four people injured — including a woman who was shot by responding cops.

Law enforcement officials said officers from the 113th Precinct responded to the residence on 149th Street between 133rd and North Conduit Avenues in South Jamaica at about 10 p.m. on Oct. 23 after receiving reports of a home invasion.

When cops arrived at the scene, they knocked on the front and back doors but got no response for several minutes. Then, two men came to the second-floor window and yelled down to them.

“Two males came to the second-floor window at the front of the home, one with visible injuries. That male told the officers who were outside that he had been stabbed by his uncle, and he could not come downstairs to open the door to let the officers into the home because his uncle was downstairs,” NYPD Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera later said at a press conference.

Rivera said that police called for specialized backup and hostage negotiation teams. Moments later, a woman appeared at the third-floor window and threw a set of keys down to them.

That enabled officers to enter the residence through a rear door as screams echoed from inside. The officers rushed to the second floor, where they walked in on what appeared to be some kind of bloody struggle.

“They entered into a small bedroom where they encountered a chaotic scene with two males and a female. There was one male sitting on the floor, a second male on top of him, and a female who was on top of both of them,” Rivera told reporters at an early morning press conference Saturday.

Rivera reported that the officers identified themselves and ordered those in the room to raise their arms and surrender. One woman, however, did not comply — the same woman who, police said, had minutes earlier thrown the keys to officers to come inside.

The woman was found to have a knife in her hand, and Rivera said she refused to let go. “Two males complied by putting up their hands. The female pointed with her left hand at one of the males across the room, but did not raise her right hand. The officers continued to issue the same verbal commands. The female still did not comply and moved in the direction of the officers with a knife in her hand. She was within several feet of the officers when an officer discharged his firearm, striking her,” Rivera said.

Police also deployed a taser at her after she had been struck with the shot, Rivera noted. A nother officer recovered the knife.

The officers then carried the wounded woman outside, and she was rushed to Jamaica Hospital; she is expected to survive. Ultimately, NYPD sources say three people were found with stab wounds in the home: a 23-year-old man who had been stabbed in the left shoulder, a 39-year-old man who had been stabbed in the right arm, a 48-year-old with a slash wound to his right pinky finger. All are expected to survive.

While police say the matter regarding exactly what took place is still under investigation, sources familiar with the investigation report that investigators are looking at the 48-year-old man as the possible aggressor who went on a stabbing spree inside the home. However, as of early Saturday morning, no arrests had officially been made.

Rivera clarified that the woman shot by police was not believed to have been the one who initiated the bloody assaults. He added that the occupants were known to one another, but their exact relationships had yet to be determined.

“What transpired in the home before the officers' arrival is still under investigation, including the circumstances of the stab wound sustained by multiple individuals at the residence. At this time, we do not have reason to believe that the female was responsible for either the home invasion or the initial stabbing reported in the 911 calls,” Rivera said.
