Neighbors of a Brooklyn man detained by ICE inside his home earlier this month demanded his release Thursday, alleging that the federal agents apprehended the man after posing as NYPD officers.
According to friends and family, Roberto Lamour was taken by federal agents inside his own home located at 75 Lenox Road in Flatbush on Oct. 3. Residents inside the building told amNewYork that several ICE agents identified themselves as NYPD officers to gain access to the building and ultimately Lamour’s apartment.
“They accessed the building by saying that they were NYPD, which is a normal occurrence in neighborhoods that are being heavily policed by NYPD. And they were let in, and then at the door they were saying that they were NYPD, that they were looking for some individual, and they were demanding to be let in,” said one resident, who identified herself as Angelina. “They were trying to cooperate, and then when they opened the door, they barged in. They asked for Roberto's ID, and then they took him.”
Even at that point, Angelina said, Lamour’s wife, Darchnee, still believed that her husband had been arrested by the NYPD and traveled to the local precinct demanding his release. But only after officers at the precinct told her that he wasn't there did she realize that ICE agents had taken him.
amNewYork reached out to the NYPD for comment and is awaiting a response. Roberto Lamour is a Haitian immigrant and a father of a 3-year-old daughter. Darchnee Lamour says their daughter regularly despairs over her father's apprehension. “She cries for him repeatedly, and whenever the doorbell rings, she runs to the door, believing that her father may have returned home. Seeing our young daughter search for her father and cry for him is heartbreaking. At her young age, she cannot understand why he is no longer at home with us,” Darchnee Lamour said in a statement.
“There's a grand wizard in the White House. We are in the Fourth Reich. These are not exaggerations. These are not hyperboles. This is what is happening. Many of us said that this would happen, they are literally making people who were here legally, quote unquote, not here legally anymore,” Williams railed. “I'm going to keep fighting till Roberto comes home.”
Lamour was originally taken to Delany Hall before being transferred to a Detention Center in Mississippi. Friends say he does not have a criminal record.
