Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz is sponsoring a gun buyback event with the NYPD in Jamaica on Saturday, Oct. 24, as part of an ongoing effort to reduce gun violence and strengthen public safety across the borough. The event will be held at Majority Baptist Church located at 115-21 Farmers Blvd. from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with no questions asked.
Residents can exchange firearms for bank cards, and they can surrender as many guns as they wish but the payment limit is two ghost guns or three firearms per person. A $500 bank card will be exchanged for an operable handgun or assault rifle; a $200 bank card will be exchanged for an operable ghost gun or 3D-printed gun. A $75 bank card will be exchanged for an operable rifle or shotgun, and $25 bank cards will be exchanged for air guns, non-operable handguns and imitation pistols.
All guns must be placed in a plastic or paper bag, or in a shoe box. If transporting by car, guns must be in the trunk. Cash-card payment is on-site, after each firearm has been screened and deemed operable.
Guns owned by active or retired law enforcement officers of licensed gun dealers will not be accepted. All persons and packages are subject to security screening upon entering Majority Baptist Church on Saturday. To request a reasonable accommodation for this event, contact dsf@queensda.org or call 718-286-6508 to discuss your needs. Call 311 for more information regarding the program.
