Police are still searching for the gunman, who fled the station Saturday afternoon.
Police have identified the man shot and killed at a Midtown subway station Saturday as 26-year-old Darrel Rodriguez of the Bronx.
The NYPD said the shooting took place around noon at the 53rd Street-Seventh Avenue station, which serves the B, D and E lines. It stemmed from a dispute between two men that police said began on the platform and spilled into the train.
Police said they did not know whether Rodriguez knew the gunman.
Rodriguez was shot in the chest and transported to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival just after 1 p.m., police said.
The NYPD said on Sunday it was still looking for a specific "person of interest" in connection with the murder and released a photo on social media. Police said the man fled north on Seventh Avenue and was last seen wearing a red tracksuit, black vest and face mask and carrying a backpack.
The MTA referred all questions to the NYPD.
"We have coordinated with the NYPD on the investigation from the earliest minutes — especially to retrieve video from platform and train car cameras,” MTA Chief of Security Michael Kemper said in a statement.
As of Oct. 11, four people had been shot in the transit system this year, up from two over the same period in 2025, according to statistics from the NYPD.
