For the second time in less than a month, the Ocean Bay Apartments in Arverne was transformed into an active crime scene after a resident allegedly slashed a married couple and then barricaded himself in his residence on the night of Friday, Oct. 9.

Steven Jorge, 52, of Beach 54th Street in the Ocean Bay complex, was arraigned in Queens Criminal Court on Tuesday, Oct. 13 on a criminal complaint charging him with two counts of attempted murder in the second degree, two counts of attempted assault in the first degree, armed felony offense, and other related crimes for slashing a 57-year-old woman and her 53-year-old husband after an argument with them escalated into violence inside Jorge’s apartment sometime after 11 p.m.

As the argument with the couple grew more heated, Jorge grabbed a kitchen knife and stated, “Die bitch, die. I’m going to kill the both of you,” according to the criminal complaint. Jorge slashed the husband multiple times in his face, head and hands with the kitchen knife causing lacerations before turning the knife on the man’s wife slashing her multiple times on her feet and hands causing lacerations to both feet and her left hand.

Police from the 101st Precinct in Far Rockaway responded to a 911 call of a person stabbed inside 410 Beach 54th St. at just after 11:45 p.m. and learned that Jorge had barricaded himself and his two victims inside the apartment. Members of the NYPD’s Emergency Service Unit responded to the location and gained entry into the apartment. As they entered the unit, an officer discharged his firearm, striking no one, police said. Jorge was taken into custody, and EMS transported both victims to Jamaica Hospital medical center, where they were listed in stable condition.

Jorge was arrested and booked at the 101st Precinct the following morning and the investigation into the shot fired by the ESU cop remains ongoing by the NYPD Force Investigations Division.

Jorge was additionally charged with two counts of assault in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree. Jorge pleaded not guilty to the charges at his arraignment before Queens Criminal Court Judge Indira Khan who remanded him into custody without bail and issued a temporary order of protection.

The attack on the couple at the Ocean Bay Apartment happened three days after a 17-year-old male from Far Rockaway surrendered himself to detectives at the 101st Precinct for the fatal shooting of 14-year-old Malakai Adams in broad daylight in a courtyard in the complex on Wednesday, Sept. 21.

The teenager was arraigned on murder and weapons charges in Queens Criminal Court on Wednesday, Oct. 14, and faces up to 25 years to life in prison, if convicted.
