Sources familiar with the matter said a mother confessed to authorities that she was responsible for the death of her 5-year-old daughter, who was found bloodied in her Queens home around dinnertime a day ago.

It wasn't immediately clear Thursday whether charges had or would be filed.

Police responded to the Richmond Hills on 110th Street home around 7 p.m. Wednesday evening for reports of a possible assault. When they arrived, investigators said they found the girl unconscious with blood coming from her nose and mouth. She was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The medical examiner's office is looking into what killed her.

Investigators were still on the Richmond Hills block early Thursday morning, gathering evidence and working to piece together what happened.
